Duane Street Hotel - Home-like Atmosphere in the Middle of NYC Business

New York City is one of the most amazing places on the planet, but it can also be one of the more overwhelming. There are seemingly an unlimited number of options for everything, and choosing a hotel can be a daunting task, to say the least. Once in a while, you find yourself in a hotel that has it all and you realize that every time you come to the city you realize you have a New York home. The Duane Street Hotel is my New York home.

Situated downtown in Tribeca at 130 Duane Street, The Duane Street Hotel is a little gem that embraces its visitor from the moment you walk in. My recent stay there had me pleasantly surprised when I walked into a modern-looking hotel lobby and felt smiles and a friendly “Hello” from the front desk and the bar, which was situated nearby. The relatively small lobby area wasn’t stifling and I felt inclined to pop down with a cocktail or a coffee and chat with the other guests lounging around.

The homey atmosphere of the hotel still did not set in with me until I went to the room. I have been to so many hotels in the city with modern design that are stiff and cold, but definitely not The Duane Street Hotel. The room was inviting with a large, extremely comfortable king bed, an HD flat-screen TV and minimal décor that was tasteful and elegant. I immediately plopped on the bed, opened up the large floor-to-ceiling window and relaxed while the buzz of the city progressed below me.

The location of the hotel was perfect and there were some great restaurants, walks and sites in the area. I was blocks from the 9/11 memorial, walking distance to South Street Seaport and even passed quite a few #OWS protesters on Wall Street. If you want to head uptown to Times Square, the East Side or Central Park – all are incredibly easy as almost every subway line is within a few block radius. It really was the perfect location to access all that New York has to offer.

After a long day of New York experiences, The Duane Street hotel welcomed me back into its lobby with more friendly greetings and dinner at the amazing Mehtaphor restaurant located on the first floor. The menu has a variety of flavors and fusions and you really will taste some new things with a hint of old flavors. It really just adds to the home away from home feeling that is rare for a modern hotel.

I highly recommend The Duane Street Hotel, it was an experience of home among the many New York moments I had during my stay. If you want an accessible, competitive location and a feeling like you’re home in New York, stay here. It’s modern and chic while also being friendly and warm. In New York you’re bound to experience juxtaposition everywhere – this hotel is no different.
